I will try to buy your books in the New World once again. Maybe since Cheney is gone, the ban has been lifted. Website looks good. I will forward to my children who will give an intelligent reaction.

"Stevie" Says:

A great story, and a great read for girls too. Looking forward to the further adventures of Tog and Jenna

"Sally" Says:

Thank you for your very exciting stories. You feel they really could have happened, and it’s very clever how you show that they could have inspired the myths. I found myself channelling Jenna at the gym the other day! Can’t wait for book 3 and meanwhile will have a read of your blog.

At first I thought that the modern dialogue in I Am The Blade was a gimmick but soon realised that it’s exactly what’s needed to engage the reader and bring home the hardships the young characters were undergoing. These books are unlike any others I’ve read set in this era and I’m very excited by them.

The landscape is very important in your books and mostly highly realistic. Hope you don’t mind me pointing out one error in Heartless Dark, though: sycamores weren’t introduced to Britain until many centuries later, as parkland trees.

Are you planning to fully explain in the next book the business with the Little Swords and Jenna which caused Tog to doubt her for a while? I won’t say more here as it would be a spoiler for those who haven’t read it yet. I didn’t feel I’d understood exactly what had happened.

"JP Buxton" Says:

Thanks Sally. I’m so pleased you liked the books and Jenna sits on your metaphorical shoulder in the gym. About the dialogue: the reason they talk modern English is to make it more vivid and because they certainly wouldn’t have been talking old fashioned English but ancient Welsh (or something like it). I’m sure to their ears, their language would have sounded vivid and modern and it was that sense that I was trying to get across.

Thanks for pointing out my sycamore bish. That’s the kind of thing you need keen readers to point out. I have Tog and his friends eating a rabbit in ‘I am the Blade’ and some people think that rabbits were introduced by the Normans – 600 years later. However I have found a reference to rabbit bones in a 7th century rubbish dump in Norfolk so I may be off the hook! With regard to the landscape, I research it on foot in every weather condition… I’m away at the moment and haven’t got a copy of the book with me. I’ll try and find the reference that makes it clear what Jenna did… All the best, Jamie Buxton
